So what is a sologamy? It is a self-marriage where you marry yourself. Solo means unaccompanied and that why it is called solo-gamy. It's a statement of self-love, independence, self-value and empowering to women practicing sologamy. Men can do it too.
Self-marriage does have its merits. It is a way to express your independence. You don't need a partner to make you happy. You are happy just being alone (solo). At least you can say you are married, therefore, no more stigma attached to being an old maid.
A sologamy ceremony has all the elements of a standard wedding between two people...wedding vows, guests, wedding cake, giving away of the bride, reception, etc.
I guess the benefit of sologamy is that you can't divorce yourself, or can you? Can you cheat on yourself? Not really since there is no legal merit just like a commitment ceremony between two people. You are issued a certificate of commitment as a keepsake. Or your partner will cheat on you.
My take on sologamy is that I am not a judge or critic. If I am more than happy to unite love between a couple, I guess I can unite self-love too. I don't think it makes a mockery out of marriage since it is just a commitment ceremony. If it makes you happy, I am all for it. The only drawback that there is not much of a love story to weave into the ceremony.
Thinking of entertaining your sologamy ceremony in Santa Barbara? I am open-minded. Call me and let's discuss it.
