Whether you are eloping to Santa Barbara or having a full blown wedding with three hundred guests, this post will give you some insight on the type of ceremonies that are available to you.
In this new age of out-the-box thinking couples can now ask for a ceremony that suits their personalities.
Your personal style can mean a religious ceremony or something altogether new and creative that mirrors both your styles. You are only limited to your and officiant's imagination,
As an out-the-box officiant, I love inventing rituals for my couples. Based on a answers to my questionaire, I will craft a ceremony that is unique and fun. Some of my favorite ceremonies have been interfaith ceremonies that blend tradition from both faiths. For instance, instead of the traditional Catholic lighting of the candles ritual, I will suggest the light two candles and push them together as a sign of unity. It's unique, it's outside thinking and no one will be offended or faith left out.
My task as an officiant is to dig deep into the couples experiences before and after they met. I like reflecting on their love story. After all, every wedding begins with a love story. Couples love hearing the details of their love story. It honors the different aspects of their relationship, from the time they met, how they met, what they love about each other and how he/she proposed. The love story always brings a smile to their faces during the ceremony.
Maybe the couple loves essential oils. I have had a couple blend their favorite essential oils as a sign of unity. As a result, they have a scent that is unique only to them. I had a couple paint a picture together. They were both artists and wanted a painting that was a reflection of who they are. A beautiful painting was created and now graces their bedroom wall.
Personal touches is what makes a ceremony unique to you and your style. Don't settle of a cookie cutter ceremony. Ask the officiant to design a ceremony just for you. That is what you are paying them for. Nothing like a ceremony rich with rituals!
Also, consider the different types of ceremonies available to you. Do you want a non-denominal ceremony? An interfaith ceremony? Theme ceremony? A spiritual ceremony? A romantic, yet non religious ceremony? Just remember to keep it about you, not what the officiant wants.
As your officiant, I will craft a ceremony that is perfect and only perfect FOR YOU. It doesn't matter that you are only eloping to Santa Barbara. You deserve a beautiful ceremony that reflects both of you.
